With our one week intensive touch typing course starting this half term, I thought I would do a little Q&A of some common questions I get asked:
𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘀?
How far they get through the course depends on so many factors; their age being just one of them. Generally the older they are, the more of the keyboard they will get through. All learners will complete the home row and top row keys with many moving onto and completing the bottom row keys. We offer follow on courses for students that haven’t quite finished.
𝗠𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝘆𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱?
Yes of course they are very welcome. We work in small groups of just 3 students to one tutor so there is lots of hands on help. If a student needs lots of help, we do recommend that parents assist on the first day or so.
𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱?
You just need a computer or laptop but you do have to install a programme so Chromebook’s aren’t suitable.
𝗜’𝗺 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁
We have a lot of fun in our virtual Zoom room. The tutor is there to keep the students engaged and help them through the course but we also make time for some games away from the typing programme. Students are encouraged to take regular rest breaks as well. We often suggest a run around the garden to let off some steam!
𝗠𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 – 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻?
It’s always a good idea to start from the beginning just so we can make sure they are using the right fingers and their accuracy is good. If they are confident on the keys, they should progress quite quickly and hopefully they can work on some advanced typing exercises on the last day.
𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐞?
We try and mix the groups by age but also place students together that we feel would work best together. Everyone works at their own pace so there’s no pressure or competition.
