"I can’t rate it highly enough!"

My daughter did this online course and I can’t rate it highly enough! As a result of the easy-to-use website, in terms of accessing the lessons, and the comprehensive feedback and guidance that was given on a weekly basis, she managed to achieve a whopping 48 wpm. The staff were efficient and effective with dealing with any issues that arose and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the course. Thank you, Team Type IT! 😀

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this 10 Week Remote Touch Typing Course suitable for?

The 10 Week Remote Course is suitable for adults and children aged 9+. We recommend that parents assist their child when they are first learning on this course.

What’s the difference between the 10 Week Remote Course and the 10 Week Remote Course Plus+

The 10 Week Remote Course doesn’t include any lessons on Zoom. The Remote Course Plus+ starts with two lessons on Zoom ideal for younger children or those that prefer more one to one help to get off to a great start.

My child has a SpLD (dyslexia or dyspraxia) - can they still join this 10 Week Remote course?

If your child is dyslexic or has another SpLD, we would recommend that they join our Remote Course Plus+ starting with two lessons with a tutor on Zoom. If you are not sure, just give us a call.

How does the 10 Week Remote Course work?

You can start the course at any time.

  • Once you have read the starter pack, you can log into our programme to get started. The programme includes easy to follow instructions on what to do and we have even uploaded ‘how to’ videos so you can follow along with finger positioning.
  • Your tutor will set you/your child a specific number of lessons to complete each week which will take approximately one hour to complete. You can do the practice on any day at any time.
  • You will be given a deadline day in the week when you or your child needs to have completed all of their lessons by. For example, if that day is a Monday, practice can be completed from Tuesday – Sunday, ready for the tutor to check the work online and give written feedback by email.
  • Your tutor will check your child’s work by looking at their real keystrokes on our system. The feedback will include information about accuracy and speed, any tricky keys and how to overcome those problems, any lessons that need to be repeated, what to do next and how to do it. The next set of lessons will be unlocked by your tutor. At the end of the course, your tutor will send you final feedback by email and a certificate of achievement.
  • For parents: We always recommend that you take an interest in what your child is learning because encouragement from a parent always helps. You could even set up a motivational reward system at home.
Can we fast track this course?

Yes, you can fast track the course! Just specify on your booking form how many weeks you would like do. You can choose from 1 week, 2 weeks or 5 weeks. Your choice should depend on how much time you have. Twice a week (two hours), is a manageable amount of time. Your tutor will give you feedback after every lesson.

Also if you want to add in one or two Zoom sessions, that’s not a problem, just give us a call. If your child is doing the remote course and they are finding it too challenging, we can switch them to our Junior Dyslexia course.

How fast will I/my child be typing by the end of the course?

Our aim is that you or your child finishes the course with a great accuracy and speed and that you also enjoy your touch typing journey. We hope that you will use this wonderful new skill to get through work faster at school and work.

Final speed will depend on a number of factors, the main ones being natural ability, age and also how much practice you do. Speed will increase naturally the more a person practices and so we see speeds go up towards the end of the course. We do set certain speed exercises throughout the course, and we hope that most students finish the course with at least a speed of 30wpm. Many of our students finish with speeds in excess of this.

At the end of the course, we will send you a final feedback, together with a certificate and details of our ‘carry on typing’ courses.

We encourage all of our students to carry on touch typing with us. We know from experience that once the course has finished, students may forget to carry on practicing. For students that have finished the course but would like to increase their speed further, we recommend our ‘Carry on Course’. This is a 3 month lesson plan, focusing on speed work, dictation, symbols, numbers, with tutor feedback once a month. If you decide not to sign up for this course, you can use the programme independently for 3 months to practice.

Tell me a little more about your tutors

All of our tutors are lovely! All of our tutors are ‘real’ human beings – not bots! Our tutors are all ages and nationalities and come from different backgrounds. All of expert tutors can touch type proficiently – some over 100wpm! Some of our tutors are teachers, some work in business and others are university students that learnt how to touch type with us many years previously. The one thing we all have in common is that we are passionate about teaching children this wonderful life skill. We really care about what we do and go out of our way to ensure your child gets the very best out of the course.

Our tutors are there to offer support and encouragement our students. On our remote courses, they will be looking at your typing stats each week, and doing playbacks of real keystrokes so they can see first hand what your typing looks like so they can easily spot any problems. They will then collate that information and write a summary of their results by email, focusing on offering words of encouragement and an outline of what they need to do and how to do it. These step by step instructions means that your child can complete their lessons with confidence.

What happens if we miss a lesson?

If you/your child does not complete their lessons by their deadline day we will let you know by email. The first missed lesson doesn’t count as paid feedback, but any further missed lessons will do. It’s therefore really important that you get into a good routine with your touch typing lessons. If you need to go away on holiday or your child is ill, please let us know as early as possible so we don’t count this as a missed lesson.

What equipment do we need?

You will need to have a laptop or computer with a keyboard with an internet connection. When you start, we ask you to purchase some Velcro stickers from Amazon and also to make a cover from a cardboard box so you are not peeking at fingers. All of this is detailed in your starter pack.

What happens if we do not finish the remote course in 10 Weeks?

Everyone is different but the majority of our students do finish the course in 10 weeks. Some students will need more hours if they have an SpLD such as dyslexia or are younger. Additional lessons and tutor support can be purchased.

This course is designed as a continuous course, so if lessons are missed or lessons need repeating, it may take longer than the allocated time.

If this happens, we will notify you closer to the end of the course, suggesting that you enrol for some additional weeks and tutor feedback support.
