Frequently Asked Questions

Which course would you recommend for adults?

We would recommend our ‘10 Week Remote Course’ which can also be fast tracked if you are in a hurry to learn. You can specify this on your booking form.

How does the 10 Week Flexi-Time Home Course work?

You can start your course at any time and do your practice on any day at any time – as long as you complete your assigned lessons by the feedback day each week.

You will be given a deadline day in the week when you need to have completed all of your lessons by. For example, if that day is a Monday, you can practice from Tuesday – Sunday, ready for your tutor to check your work online and give written feedback.

The feedback will include information about your overall results e.g. accuracy and speed, any tricky keys and how to overcome those problems, any lessons you need to repeat, what to do next and how to do it. The next set of lessons will be unlocked for you.

Once you have read the starter pack, you can log into our programme to get started. The programme includes specific instructions on what to do and we have even uploaded ‘how to’ videos so you can follow along with finger positioning. We will set you about an hour of typing practice each week.

At the end of the course, your tutor will send your final feedback and a certificate of your achievement.

I want to learn quicker than 10 weeks – is this possible?

Yes, you can fast track the course! Just specify on your booking form how many weeks you would like to do. Your choice should depend on how much time you have. Twice a week (two hours), is a manageable amount of time. Your tutor will give you feedback after every lesson.

How fast will I be typing by the end of the course?

Final speed will depend on a number of factors, the main ones being natural ability, and how much practice you do. Speed will increase naturally the more a person practices and so we see speeds go up towards the end of the course. We do set certain speed exercises throughout the course, and we hope that most students finish the course with at least a speed of 30wpm. Many of our students finish with speeds in excess of this, so 40, 50, 60wpm! Remember that once you have learnt to touch type, with continued use, your speeds will continue to increase.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

If you need to go away on holiday or if you are ill, please let us know as early as possible so we don’t count this as a missed lesson.

If you don’t notify us of any absence and you do not complete your lessons by your deadline date we will send you a notification by email. The first missed lesson doesn’t count as a paid feedback, but any further missed lessons will do. It’s therefore really important that you get into a good routine with your touch typing lessons.

What equipment will I need?

You will need to have a laptop or computer with a keyboard with an internet connection. When you start, we ask you to purchase some Velcro stickers from Amazon and also to make a cover from a cardboard box so that you are not peeking at your fingers. All of this is detailed in your starter pack.

What is the role of the tutor?

Our tutors are lovely! All of our tutors are ‘real’ human beings – not bots! Our tutors are all ages and nationalities and come from different backgrounds. All of expert tutors can touch type proficiently – some over 100wpm! Some of our tutors are teachers, some work in business and others are university students that learnt how to touch type with us many years previously. The one thing we all have in common is that we are passionate about teaching people this wonderful life skill. We really care about what we do and go out of our way to ensure your child gets the very best out of the course.

Our tutors are there to offer you support and encouragement. They will be looking at your typing stats each week, and doing playbacks of your real keystrokes so they can see first-hand what your typing looks like so they can easily spot any problems. They will then collate that information and write a summary of your results by email, focusing on offering words of encouragement and an outline of what you need to do next and how to do it. These step-by-step instructions means that you can complete your lessons with confidence.

What happens if I don’t finish the remote course in 10 weeks?

Every learner is different but the majority of our students do finish the course in 10 weeks (10 hours).

This is a continuous course, so if lessons are missed or you have had to repeat some of the lessons, it may take longer than the allocated time.

If this happens, we will notify you closer to the end of the course, suggesting that you enrol for some additional weeks and tutor feedback support, so that we can help you complete the course.

I would like to carry on touch typing after the course has finished – what other courses do you offer?

We encourage all of our students to carry on touch typing with us. We know from experience that once the course has finished, students may forget to carry on practicing. If you have finished the course but would like to increase your speed further, we recommend our ‘Carry on Course’. This is a 3-month lesson plan, focusing on speed work, dictation, symbols, numbers, with tutor feedback once a month. It’s a great way to keep up with your touch typing!

Can I ask my company to pay for this course?

Please do ask! We have had many adult learners learn with us where their companies have paid for the course. The NHS is one of them. It’s an incredible skill to have in the workplace helping to increase productivity.

If you would like to put the cost of the course through your business, just add these details to your booking form and we will send you an invoice.
